In July we took a trip to Alaska. We first landed in Fairbanks. The next day we headed to Denali National Park. We spent less than a day in the park. We took a four hour tour inside the park. We did see a Moose and lots of mountains and rivers. One day is clearly not enough time to spend in this huge and diverse park. Here are some pictures:
After leaving Denali we took a long drive through Anchorage to Seward where we boarded our cruise ship for the trip along the Alaska Inland Waterway Cruise. We sailed up Glacier Bay, then headed to Haines, Alaska. The next day we sailed to Juneau, spent a day there then onto Ketchikan Alaska. First, here are some pictures of the Glaciers in Glacier Bay:
Here is a short video showing ice breaking off of the Margerie Glacier, this process is called calving.’
From Glacier Bay we traveled to Haines. Paul did a short tour but got some nice pictures of eagles. Here are a few of the eagles and couple of the nearby landscape.
Our next stop was Juneau. We went on a boat trip to find some whales, here are a couple of pictures of the whales we did see and a buoy where some tired seals were napping after finding their dinner.
While in Juneau we also visited Mendenhall Glacier. Sadly this glacier is disappearing rapidly. Our guide said that in the two years he had been coming to Juneau he had witnessed the glacier receding by over 400 yards. Here is a picture of the glacier as we saw it.

Our last stop was in Ketchikan where we took a boat trip into Misty Fjord. The geological formations were amazing and towards the end to the trip we saw a grizzly bear with three cubs. Here are some pictures.
