Colorado 2018

As we have been going to Colorado for years but in the winter time, we decided to see what Colorado looks like without snow.  So we spent a week in Breckenridge and about five days in Granby Colorado just outside the western end of Rocky Mountain national park.  Here are our photos and a video from our adventours.

While in Breckenridge we did some sight seeing around Breckenridge but also ventured out from there to Leadville and Georgetown Colorado for some train tours.  Below is a picture of Breckenridge ski resort without snow.  Also in Breckenridge there were some trains from years past.  One is what we might call a giant snow blower and the other a train with a plow.  Trains did make it to Breckenridge from Denver, but during the winter needed machines to keep the tracks clear of snow.  In its heyday in the 19th century Breckenridge was a mining town.  The bottom picture is of some typical cabins from that period.  In the front is a sort of water canon that was used to wash away the dirt and sift through the washed dirt for gold.

We took a day trip to Leadville Colorado to take a ride on a train that followed an old mining track up into what is now the Saint Isabel National Forest.  Here are some pictures from the train. The first picture shows a small stream, this is the beginning of the Arkansas River.  The other pictures are of the beautiful scenes we saw.

On the drive back to Breckenridge we passed this beautiful sight:

Mountain and Lake

On another day we went to Georgetown Colorado for a short trip on a steam driven train.  Here are some pictures and a short video of the steam engine that pulled our train.

After leaving Breckenridge we drove to Granby CO to spend some time in Rocky Mountain National Park.  Here are some of our pictures from the park.  We saw Elk, a big Moose and stunning scenery.
