Placencia, Belize

In September we traveled to the Central American Country of Belize.  We stayed in Placencia which is a lovely place but just beginning to be developed.  We spent time at the pool and Paul did some SCUBA diving.  The diving was wonderful.  The water is warm and the coral is beautiful.  Paul also saw a Moray eel and several sharks.  We also visited Mayan ruins and a family who introduced us to raw coca or chocolate.

Above are pictures from the hotel we stayed at, the Placencia Hotel.  One morning as we were going to breakfast we were greeted by the Iguana outside the front door.  The room we had was very small, but there were bigger rooms available.

Paul did get to go SCUBA diving and here are a couple of videos from his dive.  You will see some sharks, they were a harmless breed of sharks so he wasn’t in any danger.  The Moray Eel looked like he wanted a piece of Paul but Paul moved out of the way quickly.

We also had the chance to visit a Mayan ruin.  We hadn’t even thought about until we saw the flyer in the lobby of the hotel and thought it would be great idea.  Here a couple of pictures of what is left of this particular tribal shrines.

We also visited a family in very rural Belize.  There we were introduced to the raw coca plant and watched as the family roasted the coca seeds into raw chocolate.  As Patti is a chocolate lover this was a dream, to taste raw coca and chocolate.  The below pictures with the thatched roof was the kitchen.
